Amazon Will Be Ending This in June and Some May Be Very Unhappy

E-commerce giant Amazon confirmed this week to CNBC that it would be ending wage increases and double overtime pay starting in June.

The company will only be extending hourly wage increases and double overtime pay for warehouse workers until May 31st.

It was in March that Amazon had said it would be raising the hourly wages and proving double overtime for its warehouse and delivery workers.

“We are grateful to associates supporting customers during a time of increased demand, and are returning to our regular pay and overtime wages at the end of the month,” a company spokesperson said.

According to the Amazon spokesperson, the company continues to provide flexibility for employees with its leave-of-absence options, which were recently expanded to accept applications from “high risk individuals” or workers impacted by school closures.

Amazon said recently that it would invest its expected $4 billion second-quarter profit in coronavirus-related efforts. This includes wage increases, purchasing additional safety gear for workers and building out its coronavirus testing capabilities.

An Amazon spokesperson has said that the company has spent nearly $800 million on increased pay for hourly employees and partners during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This week the company also revealed two Fire HD 8 tablets that will launch on June 3 and start at $89.99.
