Amazon and Microsoft Form Rare Partnership

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Microsoft’s Satya Nadella have teamed up to take on Google and Apple’s voice assistants.

The two companies have been doing something for about a year quietly that could shake up the voice assistant arena.

Microsoft’s Cortana and Amazon’s Alexa will soon be able to communicate with one another. The companies just announced the news this week and the partnership will allow users to summon Cortana using Alexa and summons Alexa using Cortana.

It was last May that the two joined forces when Mr. Bezos came up with the idea with Mr. Nadella at Microsoft’s CEO Summit.

Nadella has commented, “The personality and expertise of each one will be such that if they interoperated, the user will get more out of it,” he said. “That resonated for me and for him, and then that’s what led to the teams working.”
