Amazon is Being Probed by EU Regulators for This Reason
European Union regulators have their eyes on e-commerce giant Amazon right now.
The EU had previously fined Google a whopping $5 billion and now has their attention on Amazon.
European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager has started questioning merchants on Amazon’s use of their data.
Vestager is investigating to see if Amazon is using data from the merchants it hosts on its site to secure an advantage in selling products against those same retailers.
“These are very early days and we haven’t formally opened a case. We are trying to make sure that we get the full picture,” Vestager said on Wednesday.
Vestager has the power to fine companies up to 10 percent of their global turnover if they breach EU antitrust rules.
Vestagar has also launched an “in-depth investigation” into Apple and its purchase of music recognition app Shazam.
