In an effort to grow the Amazon brand in Mexico, Amazon.com Inc. is preparing to open a mega sized warehouse near Mexico City.

The warehouse is expected to be 1 million square feet according to sources who are familiar with the project.

Four Mexico City real estate professionals who are familiar with the warehouse plans said that the warehouse is expected to be built in the Tepotzotlan municipality, which is about 25 miles north of the Mexican capital.

According to the sources, the facility will be completed next year and will triple the online retail giant’s space in Mexico which has a market of over 120 million people.

“Amazon is not afraid to plow into a new market in a very big way, take a big hit, but say, 10 years down the line, this is going to be big and profitable,” remarked Neil Saunders, who is the managing director at GlobalData Retail.
