XBox Series X and S Quickly Get Sold Out All Over Ahead of the Holidays

The long awaited Microsoft Xbox Series X and S consoles are finally here but good luck finding one for sale.

The consoles have sold out quickly at all major retailers and Xbox boss Phil Spencer is apologizing for the shortages.

At an appearance at GlitchCon, Spencer said, “We need more consoles [laughs]. The number one request I get over and over is it’s so hard to get the consoles right now. And I really apologize for that. We’ve been building them for almost two months now and trying to get as many into the stores as we can, but the demand is just so high.”

According to Spencer, COVID-19 has made this year challenging for developing games and releasing the new platform. He said he is proud of his teams and those at Sony as well as third-party publishers for releasing new games and consoles this holiday season.

Xbox boss Liz Hamren also wrote in a post on Xbox Wire that Microsoft is “working tirelessly” with its retail partners globally to bring more next-gen Xbox consoles to people soon.

In her post she wrote, “Thanks to you, the launch of Xbox Series X|S is now the most successful debut in our history. While we missed the emotional spark of being together with you in person, it was incredible to celebrate a new generation of gaming with the millions on our celebration livestream and everyone who participated in our global launch across 40 countries. Your support, and what you accomplished in the first 24 hours of launch, inspire us and demonstrate the connective power of play is more important than ever.”

The Xbox Series X/S launch has been the biggest-ever for Microsoft. More consoles were sold in more countries, than ever before over the first 24 hours. In 2013 the Xbox One sold more than 1 million units over its first day but the Series X/S consoles did better. Microsoft has not disclosed specific sales number.

The Xbox Series S had the “highest percentage of new players for any Xbox console at launch.” Additionally, Microsoft said 70 percent of Xbox Series X/S consoles are attached to an Xbox Game Pass subscription.

With the shortages of the console, the Nintendo Switch is now expected to be the best-selling console platform during the holiday in the U.S.
