US Director of National Intelligence Has Resigned
James Clapper, the US Director of National Intelligence, announced on Thursday that he has submitted his resignation.
His resignation was put in as Donald Trump assembles his new administration.
Clapper, a 75-year old retired air force lieutenant general, has been on the job for six years and has coordinated the work of 17 disparate agencies like the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency.
He said resigning “felt pretty good” after six years in the job.
“I submitted my letter of resignation last night,” he told the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
“I got 64 days left and I think I will have a hard time with my wife for anything past that,” he said.
Directorate of National Intelligence confirmed his resignation with a tweet”As required of all appointed Administration officials, DNI Clapper has signed a letter of resignation effective at noon on Jan 20, 2017.”
