This is How Much Shoppers Spent on Their Phones This Thanksgiving
Another Thanksgiving has passed us and there was more than just eating Turkey and all the dressings. There was also shopping.
Shoppers were using their smart phones left and right this holiday to spend a staggering $1 billion online this Thanksgiving.
According to Adobe Analytics, which tracks transactions from 80 of the top 100 internet retailers, online holiday sales on Thanksgiving Day in total totaled $3.7 billion, up a whopping 28 percent from a year ago.
Thursday was the fastest-growing day for e-commerce sales in history, said the firm. It was also the first day in 2018 where $1 billion in sales were seen from smartphones.
“Overall, Black Friday doesn’t have the sense of urgency as in the past and feels more like a busy regular weekend day in many of the stores,” Telsey Advisory Group analyst Dana Telsey remarked. This is because many promotional deals have been available for awhile leading up onto Thanksgiving.
It was a successful day however for Kohl’s, with the retailer hitting a record day for digital sales on Thanksgiving. 80 percent of online traffic also came from mobile devices. Walmart and Target as well had strong traffic with online sales.
“Retailers understand that shopping and buying on smartphones is now the norm for consumers, and as a result are delivering better experiences and optimization on mobile devices,” said Taylor Schreiner, director of Adobe Digital Insights.
