Square Has Finally Found a New CFO

When Sarah Friar announced last year that she was leaving Square, Wall Street didn’t take the news too kindly. Even CEO Jack Dorsey vocalized what a loss she was to the company.

At the time Dorsey said, “I’m saddened by the news. I was unrealistically expecting to be working with Sarah well into our late 90s (swapping the standup tables for rocking chairs). Unrealistic because I knew of Sarah’s lifelong ambition to run her own company.”

Friar went on to become the CEO of her own company and Square then went on the search for a replacement. Shares of the digital payment processor fell about 30% since Friar said she was leaving in October.

Square has finally however found a new CFO to replace her and its Amrita Ahuja, the current CFO at Blizzard Entertainment. Speaking to CNBC, Dorsey had said that Ahuja quickly rose to the top of the search for Square’s Board of Directors given her entrepreneurial qualities. At Activision Blizzard, where Ahuja spent eight years, her roles included SVP of Investor Relations and VP of Finance and Operations. Her education includes Harvard Business School.

Dorsey said in a press release, “Amrita brings the ability to consider and balance opportunities across our entire business, and she will help strengthen our discipline as we invest, build, and scale.”

Shares of the stock dropped over 8% on Thursday despite the announcement.
