Snapchat Just Did A Very Racist Thing
Snapchat got itself in a heap of trouble with users outraged by the app enabling a “yellowface” lens.
“Yellowface” is a term that is often use for a non-Asian person using makeup or clothing.
With Snapchat’s new filter, it creates an awful depiction of stereotypical Asian features.
In their defense, Snapchat told The Verge that the filter was “inspired by anime and meant to be playful.”
Due to the overwhelming response, the filter has been taken out of rotation.
In April Snapchat had done a similar controversial move when it had an instant-blackface effect using the image of Bob Marley.
