Samsung Recalls Phone For Catching Fire While Charging
It’s been a bad week For Samsung Electronics Co. after the company had to recall all Galaxy Note 7 smartphones equipped with batteries it has found to be fire-prone. Reports indicate that the phone ignites while charging and the recall has halted their sales in 10 markets.
Head of the South Korean company’s smartphone business, Koh Dong-jin, said the recall will affect markets including South Korea and the United States.
Models in China feature a different battery and are not being recalled fortunately.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 was only launched a little over two weeks, and is the world’s biggest smartphone vendor’s latest premium phone. It features an outsized screen and high-resolution camera and cost $885.
Koh wouldn’t comment on the number of phones needing replacement but said the company had sold 2.5 million of the premium devices so far.
“I can’t comment on exactly how much the cost will be, but it pains my heart that it will be such a big number,” he said.
