Peter McDonough, a former Procter & Gamble executive, has become the CEO of Trait Biosciences Inc., a research and development firm focused on marijuana and hemp products related to health and wellness.

McDonough had been vice president of European marketing within P&G’s Gillette razor division during his 15-year career with the company. He oversaw the Duracell battery and Braun appliance brands for the European region from 2004 to 2006, which generated $1.4 billion in annual sales for P&G. His latest job had been president of Diageo North America.

Canada-based Trait is working on what McDonough described as “breakthrough technology that would enable the scaled production of water-soluble CBDs and highly valued minor cannabinoids to stimulate new product development.”

“We’re excited to bring these technologies to market and advance our patent-pending plant transformation technology delivering increased crop yields, protection without pesticides and amplified plant production of natural high-quality cannabinoids,” McDonough said.

“We will tap heavily into Peter’s expertise and experience as Trait expands its focus on the North American market and builds its stature in the worldwide CBD-infused beverage and health and wellness industry,” said Michael Harrison, chairman of Trait.
