Oil Hits 3-Year High After Trump’s Missile Threat

Oil prices were soaring on Wednesday and hit their highest level since early December in 2014.

The big move came after President Trump warned Russia that missiles would be coming in Syria.

Trump tweeted in the early morning on Wednesday, “Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!

Moscow has been backing Syria in its seven-year civil war and did not take the threat lightly.

Russian ambassador to Lebanon said that his country would intercept any U.S. attack on Syria and that it would even potentially target the craft that fired missiles.

Brent, the benchmark for international oil prices, earlier climbed to its highest level in more than three years after President Donald Trump earlier warned Russia to “Get ready” for a U.S. missile attack on Syria, whose government Moscow has backed during its seven-year civil war.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude closed the day up 2% at $66.70. It was the best settle since December of 2014.

Brent crude was up 1.4% at $72 and even hit as high as $73.09, the highest level since November of 2014.
