A New Cyber Attack Is Spreading Across The World
Thousands of computers were the victims of a new cyber virus that has spread from the UK all the way to Los Angeles and even Australia.
It was earlier in the week on Tuesday that the virus first started to get its clutches on vulnerable computer systems. The virus silently infected the computers after users had either downloaded a well known tax accounting package or visited a local news site, according to national police.
A.P. Moller-Maersk, a Danish shipping company had around 76 of its ports congested around the world from the virus while FedEx Corp’s TNT Express division had also been affected.
The ransomware cyber attack locked machines and demanded that the users pay $300 in bitcoins or would face losing all of their data entirely. So far more than 30 victims have already paid the amount.
A similar ransomware attack called the global WannaCry attack just happened in May.
The Kremlin said it had no information on the origin of the attack. The country’s largest steelmaker Rosneft was also a victim.
“No one can effectively combat cyber threats on their own, and, unfortunately, unfounded blanket accusations will not solve this problem,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
