More Than 100,000 Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) Accounts Shut Down

Author By Sophia VidaPosted on June 1, 2016

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is taking terrorism very seriously. Speaking at the Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, on Wednesday, he said, “We’re being very aggressive in shutting these accounts down. We get help from governments all over the world in pointing out these accounts.”

The company has closed about 125,000 accounts related to terrorism.

Dorsey also said the company is focused on protecting individuals from the type of abuse experienced by activist and Black Lives Matter member Deray Mckesson.

McKesson has 366,000 followers and calls himself a big fan of the service but has plenty of issues with it. He said he’s blocked 19,000 people to date. “I get death threats,” he said. “That’s not a fun experience.”

One of Twitter’s top five priorities for the year is safety, Dorsey said. That includes making muting and reporting of bad actors easier.
