Millions of Time Warner Cable Accounts Exposed in Data Breach

Millions of Time Warner customers have just had their data exposed.

According to Gizmodo, around four million Time Warner Cable personal records were exposed in a data leak that have the personal details of customers.

It was last month that more than 600 gigabytes of files were unsecured on an Amazon server by third-party communications company BroadSoft.

The customers’ information included usernames, email addresses, and financial transaction information.

Time Warner Cable parent Charter Communications said in a statement to CNBC, “Certain non-financial information of legacy Time Warner Cable customers who used the MyTWC app became potentially visible by external sources.”

As soon as the unlocked server was found, Broadsoft immediately removed the information and also started a joint investigation with Charter.

Gizmodo says that sensitive information like social security numbers or credit card numbers were not compromised.
“There is no indication that any Charter systems were impacted,” Charter said.
