McDonald’s Promotion with Travis Scott Has Caused Cops to Get Involved
Rapper Travis Scott has a promotion going with fast food giant McDonald’s that has caused the company to experience a Quarter Pounder sellout.
The promotion, which only started earlier this month, has been causing ingredient shortages for some restaurants trying to keep up with demand.
For only $6, customers can get the promo meal which comes with a Quarter Pounder burger with cheese, bacon, and shredded lettuce as well as fries and a Sprite soda.
McDonald’s is temporarily controlling the supply of some of the required ingredients to make sure the meal remains available nationwide.
Rather than locations placing orders with the supply chain based on demand, McDonald’s is sending those ingredients to restaurants based on internal calculations.
Scott is also selling McDonald’s themed items, such as a pillow shaped like a chicken McNugget, on his
website, and many of these items are selling quickly.
“We’re working closely with our suppliers, distributors and franchisees to resupply impacted restaurants as quickly as possible,” McDonald’s USA said to CNBC. “Stay tuned and don’t worry, we’ve got more surprises from Cactus Jack coming soon.”
Scott sometimes goes by the nickname “Cactus Jack.”
Scott and a McDonald’s location in Downey, CA have been cited by the city as fans showed up at the fast-food joint for the launch of the meal. Neither had permits.
According to the tickets, obtained by TMZ, Travis failed to obtain an event permit for a crowd over 200 people. He also allegedly failed to get a permit to film.
A spokesperson for Downey told TMZ that around 500 people were in attendance, and the PD dispatched several units to make sure the large crowd stayed safe.
A rep for McDonald’s said they have taken care of the fine with the city of Downey.
