McAfee Could Potentially Be Sold for Over $4.2 Billion
According to sources close to the situation, private equity firm Thoma Bravo is in discussions to buy McAfee from Intel and TPG for over $4.2 billion.
The unidentified sources have said that the company is willing to pay a “significant” premium to $4.2 billion if a deal were to occur.
AA deal is not guaranteed to happen say the sources, and an announcement on the deal is not expected soon.
McAfee was founded by John McAfee in 1987 and offers cybersecurity software for personal computers and servers, protecting users from malware and other viruses. It was in 2017 that TPG acquired a majority stake in McAfee.
Intel sees itself as purely a financial investor in McAfee now, according to one of the sources.
Thoma Bravo had also approached Symantec with a takeover offer earlier this year as reported by Reuters. The sources have said that a possible deal for McAfee would not rule out a purchase of Symantec.
