Instagram Accidentally Released Horizontal Scrolling
Sometimes people hate change and this was the case when Facebook owned Instagram accidentally released horizontal scrolling for users on Thursday.
The app suddenly released a new feature that introduced horizontal scrolling like its stories feature. While the change was short and temporary, as the feed went back to vertical scrolling shortly after, many users were less than thrilled.
Some users posted their complaints on Twitter including @alexeheath who wrotre, “Ihave the new Instagram horizontal scroll interface. I’m sure this will not be met with any backlash WHATSOEVER. But seems maybe intended to reduce mindless vertical scrolling? cc @mosseri comments at the end 😭”
@T_Smay tweeted, “So not only is the feed on #Instagram nowhere near chronological, now I gotta swipe to get through pictures?!” while @Meli_1382 wrote, “nothing can beat snapchats horrible update from a few months ago? instagram just dethroned snapchats horrible update and now instagram has the most horrible update ever. instagram=cancelled.#instagramupdate #instagram”
Head of Product Adam Mosseri tweeted that it was meant to be “a very small test but we went broader than we anticipated.”
In a statement, Instagram said, “Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today. We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologize for any confusion.”
