Huawei Is Planning for Many Layoffs in the U.S.
According to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report, Chinese multinational technology company Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is anticipating many layoffs in the United States as it continues to endure a U.S. blacklisting.
The WSJ, citing people familiar with the matter, has reported that the layoffs are expected to affect jobs at Huawei’s U.S.-based research and development subsidiary Futurewei Technologies, which employs about 850 people in research labs across the United States.
One source told WSJ that the layoffs could potentially be in the hundreds while another source said that Huawei’s Chinese employees in the United States were being given an option to return home and stay with the
company, another person added.
WSJ reported that some employees have already received notification that they would be layd off and that more job cuts could be announced shortly.
As stated by the Journal, Huawei is the world’s largest maker of telecommunications equipment and the No. 2 vendor of smartphones, ahead of Apple Inc. and behind only Samsung Electronics Co.
