General Motors Launches Hummer EV Campaign During World Series

Automobile maker General Motors is expecting that the campaign of its GMC Hummer EV will reach about 80%, or 255 million, of America’s adult population.

The all-electric pickup has debuted across several media social media and streaming platforms as well as the World Series this week.

“That’s the expectation through the course of the campaign,” Phil Brook, vice president of GMC marketing, told CNBC. “It’s really designed to make a really big noise in the market and really announce the arrival of the Hummer EV.”

No figures were revealed on how much the company was spending on the ad campaign.

“This is not just about selling cars today and taking reservations today, this is about building something really big for the future,” Brook said. “GM and GMC are very serious in the EV space.”

Sales of GM’s Hummer pickup are expected to begin shortly after production starts at a Detroit factory next fall. GM will begin taking reservations and $100 refundable deposits for the vehicle starting this week.

GM started running Hummer SUT ads online last week with teaser videos and photos. The company says the vehicle will deliver the performance of an exotic sports car as well as off-road capability and new technologies.

Initial availability of the Hummer EV will start at $112,595.

“This is all about people who just love the best in automotive innovation, performance, capability and technology,” GMC Vice President Duncan Aldred told CNBC. “These are the people who you may have seen buy the exotic sports car type brands. This will be the must-have item.”

“We had one goal for Hummer EV: Build the most capable factory truck – ever,” Al Oppenheiser, GMC Hummer EV chief engineer, said in a statement. “It’s an absolute off-road beast with a unique e4WD drive system that provides maneuverability unlike anything GM has ever offered before.”

“Short of being able to float or fly, I think it pretty much does everything else,” Aldred said. “It is like the perfect vehicle. It has something for every type of buyer.”
