Gap is Launching a Male Version of its Athleta Line

Women have been able to shop for athleisure wear from Gap’s brand Athleta, but now the company is launching a version for men.

The retailer is launching Hill City athleisure wear for men and products will initially sell online next month. Some items will also be displayed in about 50 Athleta stores around the country, according to Hill City General Manager Noah Palmer who spoke to CNBC.

The line will include items such as an “Everyday Supima Tee” for a $38 price tag.

Current athleisure wear products for men from the Gap are offered through the company’s Gap brand as well as its Old Navy brands.

“This line is something that Gap has been thinking about for a while,” said Palmer. According to the manager, who is a former Major League Soccer player and most recently head of Gap’s Old Navy men’s business, activewear is the “biggest and fastest growing” category in the men’s space.

Palmer also said, “There is a lot of really good, technological high-performance stuff on the market that we don’t think looks good. Our wish is to bridge that gap and build, essentially, a small closet for ourselves that looks how we want to look. Something that’s high-performing but where form meets function.”

He added, “A lot of our items are multipurpose.”
