Flight Attendants at This Airline Are Considering Suing Boeing

Southwest Airlines flight attendants are pretty upset over losing wages because of Boeing grounding its 737 Max jets.

The airline’s flight attendants’ union is considering filing a lawsuit against Boeing. It was last month that the airline’s pilots had sued Boeing over their lost pay and said it was $100 million in lost wages.

Southwest is the largest customer of the 737 Max in the U.S., which has been grounded since mid March after two fatal crashes involving the planes.

A union official said Wednesday that its flight attendants are considering suing Boeing over the lost pay. The union represents the roughly 17,000 Southwest Airlines flight attendants that there are.

Southwest operates an all-737 fleet, and had 34 737 Max jets in its fleet with another 200 more on order at the time of the grounding in March. Regulators around the world banned airlines from flying the plane after two crashes killed 346 people.

It was in October that Southwest said the flight ban has cost it $435 million in the first nine months of the year.

“Our schedules are being reduced,” said Chad Kleibscheidel, first vice president of Transport Workers Union Local 556. “We have bills to pay. Our pocketbooks are grounded. We are feeling the hits financially.”
