Despite Being Fired Matt Lauer is Seeking Millions from NBC

Matt Lauer was recently fired by NBC for sexual misconduct, but he may be leaving with millions in his pocket.

The former ‘Today’ show host is seeking $30 million from NBC after hos firing.

According to Page Six, Lauer’s lawyers are working on getting NBC to pay him the remainder of his $20-million-a-year contract. He would have stayed with NBC until the end of 2018 had he not been fired.

A source familiar with the situation said, “They are currently looking at his contract and determining whether the claims against him, which clearly would affect any moral clause in his contract and his ensuing termination, would cut off his contractual rights to be paid through the end of his contract.”

A television insider quoted by Page Six has said that “there is no way Matt is getting paid.”

“There has been an irrevocable breach in Matt’s contract,” the insider said. “There is a moral clause that says if he brings the company into disrepute — which he clearly has — NBC can terminate his employment immediately without pay and they do not have to pay out his contract.”

Lauer had been fired after a complaint was filed by a woman who was in an alleged affair with the reporter that started
at the Sochi Olympics in 2014.

A source had told People that “in [Lauer’s] mind, this has been a consensual affair. And a long-term one at that.”
“He was totally devastated. He never thought it would get to this level. [He] was shocked and dumbfounded and completely bewildered by what happened. He never expected this. He had felt like he was invulnerable — like Superman.”
