Coronavirus Helps Curbside Pickup at Retail Stores Explode

Posted on

With the coronavirus pandemic, many people are opting for curbside pick up to pick up things they need rather than walk inside stores.

According to Adobe Analytics, a firm that measures web transactions of 80 of the top 100 internet retailers in the U.S., the number of orders placed online and picked up at stores by customers surged 208% between April 1 and April 20 compared with a year ago.

Online sales in the U.S. also jumped 49% from March 12 to April 11, compared with a baseline from March 1 to March 11.

Naveen Jaggi, the president of commercial real estate services firm JLL’s Retail Advisory team, believes the curbside pickup trend is likely here to stay. Shoppers will likely be more hesitant to get back to stores, since they’ve adjusted to being home for so long, he told CNBC on Monday.

Many retailers are offering curbiside pick up including DWS, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Walmart, and Kohl’s.
