Co-Founder of Self-Driving Truck Company Uber Bought is Departing
Lior Ron, the co-founder of Otto, which Uber purchased, is on his way out from the company.
Ron, who co-founded the self-driving start up that Uber bought in 2016, is leaving the company according to a source that is familiar with the situation.
It was last week that Uber suspended its self-driving tests after a fatal collision occurred in Arizona that killed a homeless woman. The governor of Arizona had blocked Uber from resuming testing in the state.
This is the first pedestrian death from a self-driving vehicle.
“Our hearts go out to the victim’s family. We are fully cooperating with local authorities in their investigation of this incident,” Uber had stated.
While Uber made no comments about Ron leaving, it did state, “We remain fully invested in and excited about the future of Uber Freight. Since launching in Texas, we have introduced Freight to all states in the continental U.S. We believe it will continue to grow as we use our network and technology to transform the trucking industry.”
