Chipotle (CMG) Will Give Away About $20 Million Of Food

Many Chipotle Mexican Grill loyalty program customers could be about to get a lot of free food.

85,000 people who have successfully completed Chipotle’s loyalty program, are slated to receive free catering from the restaurant chain, according to Chris Arnold, a spokesman for the company. The loyalty program has attracted more than 3.6 million participants.

Chipotle’s loyalty program, called Chiptopia, started in July and ends September 30th. There were three tiers involved in the program: mild, medium, and hot. Those customers who purchased 11 or more entrees each month, for all three months, in the “hot” status, have earned up to nine free meals, as well as catering for 20 people, a value of around $240.

If you add it all up, this comes out to $20.4 million.

According to Chipotle CEO Steve Ells, July sales had improved by 200 to 300 basis points because of the loyalty program.
