China Halts Juul Sales on Websites Only Days After Products Launch
E-cigarette maker Juul Lab Inc. saw its products removed from JD.com and Tmall in China after the company launched them on September 9th.
Both JD.com Inc. and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s Tmall started to sell Juul vaporizers, along with refill pods in flavors such as mint, Virginia tobacco, mango and creme, between Sept. 9 and 13.
“We look forward to continued dialogue with stakeholders so that we can make our products available again,” a Juul spokeswoman remarked on Tuesday.
“While Juul products are not currently available on e-commerce Web sites in China, we look forward to continued dialogue with stakeholders so that we can make our products available again,” Juul spokeswoman Victoria Davis stated.
According to the Wall Street Journal, by the end of last week Juul’s products were delisted on both e-commerce sites, and the company was “at a loss as to why.”
Shares in Altria, which owns a 35% stake in Juul through a $1.8 billion investment, have fallen 7.5% since September 12th.
