Bill Cosby Pulls Surprising Move Against Accuser
Many are probably thinking good call after Cosby dropped a lawsuit against his accuser Andrea Constand.
The lawsuit had demanded her to repay the money from their confidential 2006 court settlement. Cosby had sued for breach of contract for speaking to police who reopened the criminal investigation last year.
Cosby’s lawyers have argued that her police statements, along with two tweets and brief comments to a Toronto newspaper, violated the confidentiality clause. Although a judge had upheld Constand’s right to talk to police, Cosby had said he would pursue the other issues.
Instead of doing that, he ended up just dropping the suit entirely this week. A move that came just a week after he switched law firms. This is the second time he’s switched law firms in about a year.
Cosby’s lawyer said in a statement, “With a court validation of his ability to proceed … Mr. Cosby has today stepped away from that suit and will instead focus his efforts on defending himself against the claims that have been lodged against him.”
According to Constand’s lawyers, Cosby lawsuit against her was “a blatant attempt at intimidation.”
“The dismissal is a victory for all victims,” lawyer Dolores Troiani commented.
