AT&T (NYSE: T) has added Indianapolis to their list of cities that will be receiving 5G service later this year.

With this addition, they now have 7 cities in which they will run this service: Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Raleigh, and Waco.

The company has also promised that there will be a dozen markets with 5G by the end of the year.

In Indianapolis alone, AT&T has invested some $425 million in their wired and wireless networks since 2015. They did launch “5G Evolution” last year, and people along with businesses were able to see peak theoretical wireless speeds up to 400mbps.

Indy was one of the first markets to get LTE-LAA technology which allows users to get up to a theoretical peak speed of 1 gigabit per second.

In 2017, AT&T made 525 network upgrades in the Indianapolis market, including new cell sites, expanding the network capacity, and new wireless connections.

“We’re proud that AT&T continues to put Indianapolis at the top of its list when deciding where its latest technologies should be launched,” Joe Hogsett the Indianapolis mayor said.
