Are You Ready For Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) To Be All Video?
Facebook’s VP Nicola Mendelsohn has just given us a crystal ball prediction of where the social site may be in the next five years.
Menelsohn, who is vice president for Facebook in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, spoke at a Fortune event about Facebook going all video in the next half decade.
Speaking at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women International Summit in London, Mendelsohn said Facebook would “definitely” be mobile, and would “probably” be “all video” within five years.
“If I was having a bet, it’d be video, video, video,” Mendelsohn commented. According to her, live videos receive ten times more comments than pre-recorded videos. “So engagement is much higher,” said Mendlesohn.
“The best way to tell stories in this world— where so much information is coming at us—actually is video. It commands so much information in a much quicker period so actually the trend helps us digest more of the information in a quicker way.”
Users currently watch an average 100 million hours of video on Facebook mobile per day and daily views have increased from 1 billion to 8 billion in one year, Fortune reported.
