Amazon’s HQ2 is About to Break Ground

E-commerce giant Amazon will soon be breaking ground on its second headquarters dubbed HQ2.

The company had received approval on its plans for HQ2 last year, which allows it to break ground early this year.

Amazon will be turning a group of vacant warehouses into two 22-story towers, along with green space, retail stores and restaurants, in a development known as Metropolitan Park in Arlington’s Pentagon City.

The head quarter’s plans for the 2.1-million-square-foot development has been submitted to Arlington County, Virginia where Amazon had received unanimous approval from the Arlington County, Virginia board.

Amazon expects construction to be complete in 2023 and that its HQ2 will add 25,000 jobs over the next decade, with half of employees working out of the Metropolitan Park site.
