Amazon Says This is Why Apple Card Was Removed as a Payment Option

E-commerce giant Amazon is blaming a “technical issue” for why Apple Card was removed as a payment option on the company’s platform.

Some users on Friday had saw that Apple Card was no longer an option for payment and it had been removed from their accounts.

A Redditor wrote, “Has this happened to anyone else? My ‌Apple Card‌ was removed from my amazon payment options, despite having made numerous purchases with it in the past. When I tried to re-add it, I got an error message that they are unable to save the card info and to use another form of payment. When I finally got someone from amazon on the phone, I was told that it was because their systems are starting to recognize the card number as Apple Pay, and amazon does not accept ‌Apple Pay‌.”

According to CNBC, who confirmed with two separate Amazon accounts, an Apple Card used to make a purchase on Thursday had been removed as a payment option on Friday.

“We are aware of this technical issue and are actively working to resolve it as soon as possible,” an Amazon spokesperson stated.
Amazon said it has not intentionally removed Apple Card as a payment option and blamed the issue on a bug.

It was in 2019 that the Apple Card was launched as part of a partnership between Goldman Sachs, which functions as the bank and lender for the card, and the iPhone maker, which built software for it in the Apple Wallet app. Apple markets the credit card to its customers.

The Apple Card is a Mastercard with a credit card number and can be used like any other credit card. This is how Apple Card holders can pay for purchases on Amazon with their Apple Card. Amazon does not accept Apple Pay which is Apple’s payment service.

A source inside Apple corporate not authorized to speak on behalf of the company told AppleInsider that “the problem is not on Apple’s or Goldman Sachs’ end.”

Goldman Sachs says “they’re aware of the issue and are working to resolve it as soon as possible,” though that is just a standard reply and doesn’t indicate anything in particular.
