Adidas Scores Big Win With Tiger Woods Deal
Adidas owned golf club maker TaylorMade just hit the jackpot by signing Tiger Woods to a multiyear endorsement deal for clubs.
Since the summer of 2016, the pro golfer has been a free agent when it comes to equipment after Nike halted its equipment business.
This meant any Nike-endorsed golfers were allowed to sign with other companies for clubs and balls.
Despite TaylorMade already having existing deals with Dustin Johnson, last year’s U.S. Open winner, and Jason Day, who is the number one golfer in the world, Woods by far is the most notable and biggest name for the company.
Here’s the irony though.. Adidas is trying to get rid of TaylorMade.
Last May Adidas announced that they want to sell off TaylorMade.
“TaylorMade is a very viable business,” said previous CEO Herbert Hainer during the time. However, we decided that now is the time to focus even more on our core strength in the athletic footwear and apparel market… the planned divestiture [of TaylorMade] will allow us to reduce complexity and focus our efforts on those areas of our business that offer the highest return.”
No buyer has emerged, but they may come around now after this huge Tiger Woods deal.
