Ford is Halting Orders for its Hybrid Pickup Maverick

It looks like so many people want Ford’s new hybrid pick up that the company had to stop taking orders.

Ford Motor Co. announced this week that the company will halt retail orders of its hybrid pickup truck the Maverick.

The company cited that it did not have the capacity to meet the overwhelming demand for the affordable pickup.

Ford said it will stop taking new orders after Jan. 27 to focus on existing bookings, although customers may still be able to purchase a Maverick at their local Ford dealer.

The company will resume taking orders for the 2023 Maverick in the summer, the company said in an emailed statement.

The Maverick compact pickup truck was launched in June of 2021 with a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain as standard equipment, a technology choice aimed at keeping the vehicle’s starting price below $20,000.

The cause of the halt on orders could be combination of factors, said Brian Moody, executive editor at Autotrader.com. “I wonder if it’s not a little bit more popular than they expected combined with continuing supply change issues,” he said.

The truck’s low starting price seems to be a major attraction, said Ivan Drury, an analyst with the automotive website Edmunds.com. “This thing is turning over as fast as any vehicle in the industry,” he said.
