Fast Food Giants like Burger King and McDonald’s Offer $1 Items as Stimulus Heads to Americans

Many Americans have had a terrible year because of coronavirus and have struggled to pay rent and pay for food. The nation has patiently waited for Congress to pass another relief package and it finally has.

Eligible Americans may receive $600 in stimulus as part of the package and the money could start hitting as early as next week for some.

Fast food giant Burger King is moving forward with a new dollar menu that could help people struggling financially during COVID-19 yet still need to somehow eat.

“Value has always been a big part of our business. Value for money is one of the key drivers of visitation to quick-service restaurants,” Restaurants Brands CEO Jose Cil said on Yahoo Finance Live.

Restaurant Brands (QSR) is the parent company of Burger King as well as Popeye’s and Tim Horton’s.

Burger King will debut the “$1 Your Way Menu” on Dec. 28th with four items: a bacon cheeseburger, a Chicken Jr. sandwich, fries and a soft drink.

Burger King is also depositing $1 into select accounts on PayPal’s Venmo platform in order to bring publicity to its new menu.

“I think we have been a bit too promotional as of late. So having an everyday value proposition is important all the time, but especially now when our guests are looking for opportunities to snack as well as to enjoy a great-tasting product at a great value.
We’re excited about this. It’s a long-term commitment and proposition and we think it will be an important part of our evolving menu innovation for years to come,” added Cil.

Cil additionally told Yahoo Finance that more than 90% of the company’s restaurants remain open during the pandemic.

Rival McDonald’s has also been generous with its dollar menu and this holiday season until Christmas, the company has been offering a range of items for free when you buy at least $1 worth of food through the app. The daily deals include a free Double Cheeseburger, six-piece McNuggets, medium fries, and more.

McDonald’s deals are listed in the deals section on the McDonald’s app every day. To activate them customers need to order $1 worth of food.
