Facebook Says it Will Block Misleading Coronavirus Ads
Largest and pioneer social media giant Facebook Inc. (FB) has announced it will be prohibiting any advertisements of products said to cure or prevent the deadly coronavirus.
The company says such ads are misleading and can create panic around the whole matter.
Facebook said ads like ‘Face masks are 100% guaranteed to prevent the spread of the virus’ among other ads will be banned.
In recent times Facebook has been on the receiving end of increasing regulatory scrutiny due to the nature of content shared across its various platforms topping the list being fake news and contents reflecting extreme ideologies.
Last month other social networks like TikTok and Pinterest removed content with misleading information about the coronavirus from their respective platforms.
Equally Facebook promised to take down content with false claims or conspiracy theories that have been flagged by leading global health organizations and local health authorities.
Following reported coronavirus cases in new countries like Italy, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has being on high alert warning Americans to start preparations for the spread of coronavirus in the country.
The number of coronavirus deaths in Italy is now 10 while new infections in the country have soared to 400.
In China where the virus originated still remains most affected by this epidemic, currently 2,700 people have died in China due to the deadly coronavirus.
