Blue Apron and Disney Have Partnered Up Ahead of Luca Release

Meal delivery kit company Blue Apron has partnered up with Walt Disney Inc. in hopes to retain and attract new customers and subscribers.

The company has forged a partnership with Pixar Animation Studios themed to their upcoming film, Luca, which is set to be released on June 18th on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+.

Luca is about one young boy who spends his summer eating his way around the Italian Riviera, according to a description on the Disney website.

Earlier this month Blue Apron reported its first quarter financial results, revealing a revenue increase of 27% YOY to $129.7 million. The company had posted a net loss of $15.7 million which represented the largest loss in three consecutive quarters. It was however an improvement from the $20.1 million that was lost in the same period a year ago.

Blue Apron also reported that average order value reached $61.63 in Q1. This was a new record for the company as the number of customers and orders per customer increased 7% year-over-year.

Company President and CEO Linda Findley Kozlowski said that to continue driving growth with new offerings, Blue Apron has launched add-ons that let customers pick an appetizer, side dish or dessert each week.

“Product innovation, which includes add-ons, the newest introduction to our menu, is one of the key pillars of our growth initiative, and we expect to continue to launch new products over the bounds of this year,” Randy Greben, the company’s chief financial officer, said during the earnings call.

It was this past December that Blue Apron had celebrated Disney and Pixar’s new film, Soul, whicih began streaming on Disney+ on December 25th.

At the time, Blue Apron said the company was debuting four limited-time recipes designed that make dinner a true family affair by bringing everyone together in the kitchen. These kid-friendly meals are nutritious, easy to make, and sure to get rave reviews from the whole family.
