Amazon Pharmacy Offers Six-Month Prescriptions at $6
E-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc. has made a pretty big move to entice people to start buying their prescriptions online instead of in person at the pharmacy.
The company is offering six-month prescriptions starting at $6 for medications for common ailments.
Amazon said prime members would get additional savings when paying without insurance.
Customers can pay as low as $1 per month for select medications, including drugs to treat diabetes and blood pressure, and will get free two-day delivery.
This offering is targeting both the uninsured and the insured as most insurance companies do not cover six-month prescriptions.
It was in 2018 that Amazon purchased online pharmacy PillPack, who targets consumers who take multiple medications, simplifying their regimen by sending the drugs in daily packets.
Amazon Pharmacy’s new offering is aimed at consumers who take just one or two daily pills to manage common ailments such as high-blood pressure and diabetes.
Amazon Prime subscribers, who pay for delivery discounts and other perks, will be able to get six-month prescriptions for $6 on medicines that include amlodipine for high blood pressure and simvastatin for high cholesterol.
According to Amazon Pharmacy Vice President TJ Parker, Amazon can buy the medication in bulk at a discount and make two annual deliveries to the customer, using the savings to reduce costs. “We want to make filling a prescription just as easy as shopping on Amazon,” he said.
It was also this week that Walmart said it would offer members of its online delivery service discounts for commonly prescribed medications.
