Waitr Food Delivery Service Could Be The Next Huge App

Waitr Inc., is a food delivery service that offers a smartphone app and website that connects restaurants and customers with its delivery service. It charges a flat fee of $6.99 for food deliveries and now serves 18 cities.

The company just received a huge investment of $10 million from a group of Gulf Coast investors led by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Drew Brees is the owner of sports-themed Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar in New Orleans. He also owns multiple Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Louisiana. Bree’s own restaurant has been a customer of Waitr and he’s impressed by how they operate.

“I have seen firsthand how Waitr’s software platform can give a restaurant new revenue streams they might not have otherwise. We have seen the growth in our own restaurants after signing on with Waitr,” said Brees.

It was just last year that Waitr, which was based in Lake Charles, Louisiana, purchased Sacramento-based company Requested, that offered an app that handled restaurant payments, reservations and discounts.

The combined acquisition today has some of Requested’s management team on board.

Sonny Mayugba, Requested’s co-founder and CEO, is chief marketing officer with Waitr. Co-founder and COO of Requested, Nichole “Coco” Barnum is now head of product with Waitr.

Company spokesman Dean Turol said that the $10 million investment will help Waitr grow into new markets. The investment will help it expand to 40 cities by the end of the year.
