The NRA is Suing Over Florida’s Gun Control Law

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has filed a lawsuit over Florida’s gun control law.

The state’s governor Rick Scott has recently signed a gun control law that the NRA believes violates the Second Amendment.

Scott has approved legislation that raised the age to buy guns from 18 to 21. The legislation has also created a “guardian” type program where teachers as well as other school employs can carry handguns.

The NRA were quick to act with their lawsuit as it came only hours after Scott signed the legislation.

Florida’s new gun control law comes after a deadly shooting that occurred in a Parkland, Florida high school that killed 17 people.

“This bill punishes law-abiding gun owners for the criminal acts of a deranged individual,” executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action Chris W. Cox remarked. “Securing our schools and protecting the constitutional rights of Americans are not mutually exclusive.”

The state’s Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is named as a defendant in the lawsuit commented, “This bill is not perfect, and sadly it will not bring back the 17 lives lost in the horrific school shooting, but the safety of our children is not a political issue, it’s simply the right thing to do.”
