There May Be A Pill Soon That Will Cure Acne
For all the teenagers and even adults, who suffer from pesky breakouts and are diagnosed with acne, there may be a pill soon to cure it.
With so many treatments out there, from creams to serums, it’s oral antibiotics that may be the answer. Treating the acne from within.
Allergan and Paratek Pharmaceuticals have worked together to create an antibiotic option, called Sarecycline. The two drug giants have reported the positive completion of two Phase 3 trials. This is very encourging considering that the FDA requires four stages of clinical trials before it will approve or deny a new drug. Only one phase to go.
Sarecycline is a once-daily, oral, narrow-spectrum tetracycline-derived antibiotic, for the treatment of moderate to severe acne.
According to New York City-based dermatologist Dendy Engelman, “This is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic, which is effective against specific families of bacteria. In this case, it’s targeted to treat specific acne-causing bacteria.”
Rosacea sufferers may also find this as good news because researchers found that Sarecycline was evaluated for the treatment of rosacea during the trials.
Rosacea is a skin condition that involves redness and visible blood vessels on the skin. Sarecycline’s anti-inflammatory properties was able to rid the participant’s redness on their complexions.
It’s undetermined when Sarecyline will be available, but based on the results of Phase 3, a New Drug Application (NDA) will be filed to the FDA in the second half of 2017.
