James Murdoch Suddenly Resigns from News Corp Board
This past Friday, James Murdoch resigned from the board of News Corp, effective immediately, leaving the board now with 10 directors.
The move was due to “disagreements over certain editorial content” that was published by the company’s news outlets, which include The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post.
In his resignation letter Murdoch wrote, “I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the Board of Directors of News Corporation (the “Company”), effective as of the date hereof. My resignation is due to disagreements over certain editorial content published by the Company’s news outlets and certain other strategic decisions.”
“We’re grateful to James for his many years of service to the company. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” said Rupert Murdoch, executive chairman for News Corp.
News Corp is controlled by James’ father Rupert Murdoch who also controls Fox Corporation, the parent company of Fox News. Rupert is an Australian businessman and confidant of President Donald Trump.
Rupert and James’ brother Lachlan Murdoch said, “We’re grateful to James for his many years of service to the company. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
James Murdoch had been the CEO of Fox prior to Disney’s $71.3 billion deal for 21st Century Fox’s movie and TV studios and other assets. He also serves on the board of Tesla.
