Shakira and J Lo Pay Tribute to Kobe Bryant During Super Bowl Halftime Show
The 2020 Super Bowl halftime show was a big hit this year. It featured two Latina women, Shakira and J Lo, who pumped up the stadium for 15 straight minutes.
The two stars had announced last week that there would be a tribute to Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant who tragically passed away in January. Many were anticipating this tribute as they watched the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers game.
Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
“We’ll all be remembering Kobe on Sunday and celebrating life and diversity in this country,” Shakira said at a Super Bowl press event last Thursday. “I’m sure he’d be very proud to see the message we are trying to convey on stage that day.”
Bryant was a close friend of J Lo’s fiance, former New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez. On Bryant’s death, J Lo said, “I think it’s just affecting everybody so much because it’s just reminding us again of how fragile life is and how we have to appreciate every single moment.”
The tribute to Bryant took place when Lopez’s 11-year-old daughter, Emme, along with a children’s choir, joined her on
stage to sing “Let’s Get Loud.”
It was then that an overhead shot of the field showed a giant cross, which lit up in purple and yellow, the colors of the Los Angeles Lakers. Before the game began, there was also a moment to honor those who died in the helicopter crash.
While this was a touching tribute, some were angry that they could not see it. Many took to social media to complain that they were looking for the tribute and couldn’t see it.
