Facebook’s CEO Talked to the Winklevoss Twins About This

Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive of social media giant Facebook, has reportedly been in discussions with the Winklevoss twins about the company’s cryptocurrency endeavors.

According to a Financial Times report, Zuckerberg had the talks with Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss about the company developing digital currency.

The twins are the founders of Gemini Trust, which began trading as a bitcoin exchange in New York in 2015.

It may be surprising that Zuckerberg would talk with the twins as they had sued him previously, claiming that he stole their idea for the social network platform when the trio attended Harvard University.

The newspaper also said that Zuckerberg had spoken to Coinbase.

Facebook is reportedly working on a way to use cryptocurrency to facilitate payments through its WhatsApp. The newspaper reported that the currency also would allow Facebook’s 2 billion users to exchange money as well as buy things on Facebook’s other platforms like Instagram.

“Facebook’s idea is to launch their own crypto,” Ben Mezrich, author of the book that later became the film “The Social Network,” said to CNBC’s Squawk Box. “So who do they have to reach out to? Now the twins know more about this than Facebook does, so they’re one of the people that [Zuckerberg] has to go to to get into this world. ”
