Driving for Walmart Can Get You This Much Money a Year

There’s a shortage of truck drivers across the nation but this may not last much longer after what retailer Walmart just did.

The company has raised driver salaries to $87,500 a year on average starting next month. The move is Walmart’s effort to attract hundreds of workers to fill out the company’s fleet this year.

In 2018, the company had hired over 1,400 new drivers and still needs fresh drivers to keep its inventory moving out and into the hands of consumers. Last year same-store sales for the giant retailer had grown by 3%.

According to the American Trucking Association, there are 48,000 vacant trucking jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has found that the median annual wage for most tractor-trailer truck drivers across the U.S. is $44,500.

Walmart’s offer for $87,500 is nearly double that. The company is also offering the drivers three weeks of paid time-off their first year and quarterly bonuses for safe driving said Business Insider.

If that’s not impressive enough and makes you want to go sign up and be a driver, the company is also promising two days a week at home.

In order to get a position as a driver with Walmart however, you will need to pass an initial on-boarding process and driving checks. You will also need 30 months of experience in the past three years and a clean safety record.
