People Used Twitter to Spread False Stories About the YouTube Shooting
Twitter took it upon itself to defend its current policies in the wake of users spreading false stories about the YouTube shooting that happened on Tuesday.
As the events unfolded that day, there were accounts on the social media platform spreading hoaxes. One witness’s account was even hacked.
Twitter said that it would invest more in fighting misinformation and in a blog post entitled, “Serving the Public Conversation During Breaking Events, ” Twitter remarked on how it has improved in the last several months on responding to these kind of issues.
“This work is ongoing,” the company wrote. “We are continuing to explore and invest in what more we can do with our technology, enforcement options, and policies – not just in the U.S., but to everyone we serve around the world.”
