Google To Roll Out Stronger Gmail Security for Users
Alphabet’s Google Inc. announced on Tuesday that it would be launching an “advanced protection program” for some users, so that they have strong email security.
The kind of users the company is rolling this out for include government officials and journalists, as these people are more prone to being targeted by hackers for their information.
The users will have the ability to opt into the new feature that will not only protect Gmail but also Google Drive, and YouTube data from attacks.
There is an option to use a physical USB security key before each log in that verifies the user’s identity but there is no back up log-in method if the key is lost aside from a full account recovery process.
“If John Podesta had Advanced Protection last year, the world might be a very different place,” remarked Joseph Lorenzo Hall, the chief technologist at the Center for Democracy and Technology.
