Apple’s CEO Finally Reveals What They’re Doing In The Automotive Market
It seems that tech giant Apple is interested in self-driving technology and finally CEO Tim Cook admits it. In an interview on Bloomberg TV last week, the chief executive said, “We’re focusing on autonomous systems.”
“We sort of see it as the mother of all AI projects,” Cook continued. “It’s probably one of the most difficult A.I. projects actually to work on.”
This is probably one of the most detailed and open statements from Cook about Apple’s endeavors in the arena. According to Bloomberg news, Apple has been wanting to build its own car but then switched its focus on to autonomous driving. There were more than 1,000 engineers working on the company’s Project Titan, the name given to the company’s car team.
It was reported back in April that the company had secured a permit from California’s DMV to test self-driving SUVs. A source close to the project has said that severl cars were testing the autonomous technology out on public roads around San Francisco over the last year. Apple has declined however to comment on how long the tests have been going on.
“There is a major disruption looming there,” Cook said on Bloomberg Television. “You’ve got kind of three vectors of change happening generally in the same time frame,” he said. He was referencing ride hailing services and electric cars. He continued, “It’s a marvelous experience not to stop at the filling station or the gas station.”
I guess we’ll just have to continue waiting to see what Apple comes up with, but it’s nice to finally hear Cook discuss openly what they company is doing.
