You May Have To Start Paying For Twitter

No, Twitter is not going to make all of its users start paying a subscription, but the social networking site could one day offer a premium version of its interface that may require money.

Twitter announced on Thursday that it is considering a premium version of its site for professionals and the question is, will it cost money?

The company may need it considering that in Q4 of 2016, Twitter posted the slowest revenue growth since it went public four years earlier, and revenue from advertising fell year-over-year.

Twitter now has over 300 million users worldwide and offers its service for free as the company is supported by advertising.

According to spokeswoman Brielle Villablanca, Twitter is conducting a survey “to assess the interest in a new, more enhanced version of Tweetdeck.”

Tweetdeck is an existing interface that helps users navigate Twitter.

Villablanca stated, “We regularly conduct user research to gather feedback about people’s Twitter experience and to better inform our product investment decisions, and we’re exploring several ways to make Tweetdeck even more valuable for professionals.”

A screenshot on the account account @andrewtavani wrote that the version could include “more powerful tools to help marketers, journalists, professionals, and others in our community find out what is happening in the world quicker.” The description said the enhanced experience could be ad-free.
