Amazon Will Start Collecting Sales Tax From These Four States

Online giant Amazon may have disappointed many customers in four sates with one of their newest announcements.

The online retail powerhouse will start collecting sales tax from all states with a sales tax starting next month on April 1st.

The last four states to holdout have been Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, and New Mexico. People in these states can wave bye bye to tax-free shopping.

“Maine businesses can go toe-to-toe with the very best out -of-state companies, provided they are competing on an equal playing field,” said George Gervais, commissioner of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, in a statement.

“Amazon’s decision to collect and remit sales tax to the state of Maine is an important first step in leveling the playing field,” he said.

The only states who do not have sales levies are Alaska, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, and New Hampshire.
